Milewright privacy policy
Last updated 8 November 2026. Applies to Milewright for iPhone and Android.
Milewright logs the journeys you drive so you can claim mileage. It is made by Ebor Forge ("we"). This policy explains what the app records, where that information is kept, and who can see it.
The short version
- Milewright has no server and no accounts. We never receive your trips, routes or places.
- Your data is kept on your phone, and backed up to your own iCloud (iPhone) or Google (Android) account if you have backup turned on.
- There are no adverts, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
- You can delete everything at any time.
What the app records
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your location (GPS) while you're driving and your phone is connected to your chosen car | To draw the route and measure the miles |
| Trip details: start and end times, distance, start and end place names, business or personal, purpose, car name | To list your trips and build your mileage report |
| Places you save (a name, a position and whether it's a business place) | To name trips that start or end there |
| Your chosen car's Bluetooth name (and on Android, its Bluetooth address) | To know when you're in your car |
| Settings: mileage rates, export layout, the email address for the monthly spreadsheet (iPhone) | To remember your choices |
| A diagnostics log of what the app did, such as "car connected" or "drive saved". It contains no locations | To help fix problems if you choose to send it |
Location is only saved while your phone is connected to your chosen car. When you aren't driving, the app doesn't keep your location.
Where it is held and who can access it
On your phone
Everything above is stored in the app's private storage on your phone. Other apps can't read it. On iPhone it's protected by your passcode. Only you, and anyone who can unlock your phone, can see it.
iPhone: your iCloud
If you're signed in to iCloud and iCloud is turned on for Milewright, your trips and saved places are stored in your own private iCloud database. This lets them come back on a new phone or after reinstalling the app. Apple stores this data, encrypted in transit and at rest, under Apple's privacy policy. We can't see your iCloud data: app developers have no access to their users' private iCloud databases. To keep trips on the phone only, turn off iCloud for Milewright in iPhone Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
Android: your Google backup
If Android backup is on (Settings > Google > Backup), Android copies the app's data (trips, routes, saved places and settings) to your own Google account, roughly once a day. It's restored automatically when you reinstall the app or set up a new phone. Google stores it under Google's privacy policy. On Android 9 and later, the backup is encrypted using your screen lock. We can't see it. To prevent the backup, turn off Android backup.
Services the app uses to show maps and place names
- iPhone: to turn the start and end of a trip into a street name, the app sends that position to Apple. Maps in the app come from Apple Maps. When you add a trip by hand and tap Work out, the place names you typed go to Apple Maps to find the route.
- Android: street names come from Android's built-in geocoder, which sends the position to Google. Check the miles in Google Maps and Show on map open Google Maps (or your map app) with the places you chose.
These requests contain a position or place name, not your trip history. They are handled under Apple's or Google's privacy policies.
When you share something yourself
Nothing leaves the app unless you share it. When you export a spreadsheet, send the monthly email or send diagnostics, the file goes to whoever you choose. From then on, the app you send it with (such as Mail, Gmail or WhatsApp) and the person you send it to control it.
Testing (TestFlight and the Android download)
While Milewright is in testing:
- TestFlight (iPhone) gives us your name and email (the ones you were invited with), crash reports, and any feedback you choose to send. This is under Apple's TestFlight terms.
- The Android download comes from our web host. As with any website, the hosting company's server logs record your IP address when you download the file.
- If you test on Android, we keep your email address in a private file on our web host, only to tell you when a new version is ready. Email support@eborforge.co.uk and we'll remove it.
How long it's kept
Trips stay until you delete them. To delete trips:
- One trip: open the trip and tap Delete. On iPhone you can also swipe it away.
- Several trips: use Trips by date.
- Everything (iPhone): Settings > Delete everything removes all trips from your phone and iCloud. On Android, choose your whole date range in Trips by date and delete those trips.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on the phone. Copies in your iCloud or Google backup stay until you delete them there:
- iPhone: Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Manage Account Storage.
- Android: Google Drive > Backups.
Children
Milewright is meant for drivers and is not aimed at children.
Your rights
The only personal data we hold is what's described under Testing above, and you can ask us to see or delete it. Everything else is in your own hands, on your phone and in your own cloud account. Under UK GDPR you can contact us with any question.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Big changes will be noted in the app's What's new page.
